About Que Chan (ING Creatives Competition Winner!)
Que Kwan-Lei Chan (b.1989) is an artist from Hong Kong. Now lives and works in the U.K. Que works in a variety of creative arts, with particular focus on paintings, Illustrations and animations. She believes art is therapeutic, and the process of creating art is a way to build relationship with the places and the people she comes across. Inspired by this, many of her works offer a snapshot of various city scenes and passers-by bursting with color and overflowing details.
Her recent acrylic work “About time” depicts a fantasized collage of her childhood memories, with a clock-dial faced monster symbolizing how memories fade. Change is the only constant, but memories are fragile, and that our effort to acknowledge our history is the only way to preserve the places and people that we cherish.
Que has been an urban Sketcher for many years, painting places in Hong Kong that undergoes redevelopment, and she feels strongly against these ongoing gentrification. This has been a main source of inspiration for her work.
