About Sonia Lazo
Sonia Lazo is a graphic designer whose true passion is illustration. From small and tropical El Salvador, she started drawing as a way to express herself and a form of therapy, sharing her work on social media. Eventually people began to show interest in her work until she started receiving work proposals. Her clients include Adobe, Coca Cola, Santillana, among others and she has participated in projects and exhibitions in El Salvador, Guatemala, United States, Spain and Taiwan.
With her work she wants to contribute to the eradication of stereotypes and defy gender roles, it’s focused on feminism, gender identity and sexual orientation. Her characters are always strong, passionate, angry (in a way that is not someone that tolerates discrimination, injustices, etc.), independent and quite sensitive and emotional, yet not weak. She also shows a strong interest towards magical words, frequently representing parts of that in her illustrations.
Sonia Lazo also manages her own brand, with a variety of illustrations and products for sale, such as original paintings, prints, buttons, handmade brooches, patches, shirts, etc. Always experimenting with new techniques and materials, she can be quite obsessive with her work and her need to keep creating. As a personal challenge everyday she posts something new on her instagram account (@sonialazo), with the objective of being active, but most importantly, to create connections with others.
