About the talk
Cafeterias, ubiquitous in the UAE, are sites ripe for examination through the lens of graphic design. Afaaq Al Mustaqbal highlights the social and cultural aspects, and aesthetics, of cafeterias in the United Arab Emirates. Salem Al-Qassimi will share the revelations of the reasoning behind the aesthetics of the cafeteria, and the thinking — or therefore the lack of it — that goes into designing for it.
This talk highlights the design tropes in the logos, colors, and signage of the Emirati cafeteria. It investigates the reasoning behind naming trends and examines their roots in the social and cultural zeitgeist of the UAE.
